That for the regiments and separate battalions of the Iowa Army National Guard: From a wreath Argent and Gules, a hawk's head erased Proper.

Shield
The service of the former organization, the 185th Field Artillery, is indicated by the white shield which represents the old 54th Iowa Infantry. The gold pale with the red edges is representative of the 185th Field Artillery. The cactus is for the Mexican border service and the insignia of the 34th Division indicates service overseas during World War I.
Crest
The crest is that of the Iowa Army National Guard.
The coat of arms was originally approved for the 185th Field Artillery Regiment on 24 March 1925. It was redesignated for the 185th Field Artillery Battalion on 5 October 1942. The insignia was amended to delete the North Dakota Army National Guard crest on 24 July 1951. It was redesignated for the 185th Artillery Regiment on 20 October 1960. It was redesignated for the 185th Field Artillery Regiment on 24 July 1972. It was redesignated with the blazon and symbolism revised for the 185th Regiment on 21 May 1997. It was amended to correct the authorizations and the blazon of the crest on 1 March 2011.
